Extraordinary Intro

Easter 2022

An Extraordinary Promise (4/17)

The resurrection of Jesus is not ordinary.  Ordinarily, when people die, they stay dead. Jesus died. But he didn’t stay dead. He rose. He’s alive! He turned death into life. And old became new. Life with Jesus is never ordinary. Are you ready?

Clean Slate

Exchanging the Means (4/10)

Pastor Joel concludes our series and looks at how we exchange the means of forgiveness. Even though we can’t do it ourselves, we have a Heavenly Father who can.

Embracing the Miracle (4/3)

Romans 8:1 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” We know it to be true but we keep trying to pay the price that has already been paid. Pastor Joel continues our series and looks at how we can embrace this miracle.

Exploring the Mystery (3/27)

Pastor Joel continues our series and the myth about forgiveness. What does it really look like? Is it confusing? How do we do it? There are so many good questions in this sermon and some answers that might surprise you.

Exposing the Myths (3/20)

Forgiveness can be a hot-button issue in the church. Any time a pastor preaches a sermon about forgiving those who have wronged us, stories of pain and suffering at another’s hand are sure to follow. The fact is that we all struggle with forgiveness and find the commandment to forgive hard to follow. Yet, God’s commandment stands firm. With that in mind, Pastor Joel kicks off our new series from John 20.

Clean Slate Intro

The Need for New

Expect Difficult (3/13)

Pastor Joel concludes our series as we look at how John the Baptist and his disciples faced difficulty. We often think following Jesus means there will be no hardships in life, when Jesus himself encountered numerous moments of difficulty, and yet, He knows its worth it to die on the cross for you and I.

Expect Different (3/6)

Pastor Ryan kicks off our series where sometimes, the need for reform is so great that the fresh work of God cannot be contained in old or expected forms. Jesus makes this essential point in Matthew 9, speaking directly to the people's confusion about why He was not engaging in the practice of fasting as the disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees did. He did not conform to their expectations of piety, not because their views of piety were entirely wrong but because God was doing a new thing.

The Need for New Intro

Cardioversion

It’s Our DNA (2/27)

Pastor Joel concludes our series and preaches about how loving others is deep in our DNA for those in Jesus! We are called to be a people of the towel and serve and love!

Heart Health (2/20)

More Than Imitation (2/13)

Pastor Joel continues our series from John 13 as he challenges us to be more than imitators of Jesus. With the Holy Spirit in us, we can love others because His love is in us and we can be participants!

Arrhythmia (2/6)

It is the night before Jesus is crucified. The twelve apostles are eating with Jesus the most important of all meals. Betrayal has been put in motion. Feet have been washed. The glory of God is about to be seen. Jesus is leaving them. And in a moment of conflicting and intensified emotion, Jesus issues a single command three times. “Love one another.” Pastor Joel kicks us off on a journey into the heart of John 13, where we will be challenged by the new, yet shocking standard of love Jesus demands.

Vision Sunday 2022

Vision Sunday (1/30/22)

What if there was something better that could be found not by going back but by going forward? Not by a return to normal, but by moving forward into NEW. You see, we believe that God has something NEW for us this year. NEW for YOU this year. That God’s NEW is what we need to pursue, not looking back to normal. If there was something better than you had, if there was something better than you even have now, you’d want that, right? Of course, you would. Well, this year Bara wants to help you experience the brand NEW that God has for you!

NEW Intro Video 2022

January Sermons

Write It Down (1/23/22)

As we seek all the new that God has for us this year, we believe we will experience even more new than we can imagine. But will we even remember the new we do experience? The odds for doing so go way up if we will write it down. There are numerous reasons for writing things down bolstered by countless scientific studies. But one reason stands above the rest. Get your pen ready as Pastor Joel preaches a message from the book of Revelation called, "Write It Down."

Plans (1/16/22)

God has given us brains to make plans. We make plans on what to wear, what we’ll do on Tuesday, what to eat, where to go on vacation and many more. Sadly, we often make our plans and then see where God’s plans for us can fit into our already busy schedule. Pastor Ryan hops into the book of Proverbs and looks at what God has to say about our plans and His plans.

Nothing New Under the Sun (1/9/22)

For this message, Pastor Joel preaches from the first chapter of Ecclesiastes and the wisdom of Solomon to tell us how nothing is really new. That is, until God calls us to more!

Experience New (1/2/22)

Join Bara Church as we hear a special message from guest speaker, Jack Hollis. Jack is the Senior Vice President of Automotive Operations for Toyota and Lexus North America but most importantly, Jack loves Jesus, his family, and serving others!

2021 Gatherings

Keep Looking Up

Treasure Up (12/26)

2021 was the year we got back up! We heard the Father's call to Rise! While so much of life is nearly impossible to measure, enumerate, or quantify, we believe that we accomplished our quest to rise in big and small ways! As we end 2021, Pastor Joel will invite us to “Treasure Up,” as we remember and recall some of the things that God has done in, for, and through us this past year!

Christmas Eve - The Best Gift (12/24)

As we celebrate this Christmas Eve, Pastor Joel challenges us to keep looking up to Jesus because Jesus won’t let us down. This is a great opportunity to slow down so we can treasure up all the good that is Jesus. Jesus truly is the best gift!

Fit for a King (12/19)

Pastor Joel continues our series as we look at God's omnipresence in the Christmas story through the treasures the wise men brought to Jesus. They were of significant value and prophetic importance. Gold, frankincense, and myrrh are gifts worthy of a king. Gold is symbolic of Christ’s deity as King (Royalty), frankincense represents His purity as Priest of God (Divinity), and myrrh is suggestive of His anointed work as a Prophet and of His death (Humanity).

A Midnight Clear (12/12)

Pastor Joel continues our series as we look at God’s omniscience in the Christmas story. We will see in the scriptures that although confusion abounds in the Biblical Christmas narrative, we can be clear on one thing: Jesus is the true king! And he’s the only king worthy of our worship!

Go Up (12/5)

Pastor Joel kicks off our new Christmas series as we look at God's omnipotence in the Christmas story. We will see in the scriptures that although things didn't go as people expected, they went exactly as God directed.

Keep Looking Up Intro

Turn Up the Heat

The Refiner of the Fire (11/28)

Mine. It’s one of the first words we learn as children. No one has to teach us to be possessive. Selfishness comes naturally. Pastor Joel wraps up our series and peaches a message from the book of Malachi. God spoke this analogy through the prophet Malachi to describe how he purifies our hearts. Just as a refiner’s fire, God will draw out our dross – our broken, sinful ways – so that we will stand pure and righteous before him.

The Supplier of the Fire (11/21)

Pastor Joel continues our series and preaches about when there was a seemingly hopeless time in Israel, God called Elijah to perform one of the greatest miracles described in the Old Testament. And make no mistake, while Elijah plays an important part, God is the supplier of the fire!

Even If Faith (11/14)

Pastor Joel continues our series and preaches a message from Daniel 3 called, “Even If Faith.” We will learn a valuable lesson from the lives of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego: If we forget why we serve and who we ultimately serve, we will stop serving when the heat gets turned up.

Why Does the Bush Not Burn Up? (11/7)

Pastor Joel kicks off our new series from the book of Exodus and how we are called to keep an eye out for a movement of God, even on our normal, every-day paths.

Turn Up the Heat Intro

Rise from the Dead

The Discipline of Confession (10/31)

Pastor Joel concludes the series with a message on confession from James 5:16. Confession is the identification and consequent communication of our sins with God and trusted others. It is in being broken that we truly find the depths of God’s grace and mercy. As we experience His forgiveness and healing, we rise in increased intimacy with The Father.

The Discipline of Fasting (10/24)

Pastor Joel continues our series and preaches from Jesus’ words on the sermon on the mount about the spiritual discipline of Biblical Fasting. We will discover that the aim of Biblical Fasting is always increased intimacy with the Father.

The Discipline of Solitude (10/17)

Pastor Joel continues our series and looks at the spiritual discipline of solitude. Solitude is a key discipline for all those seeking God; however, a believer’s journey into solitude and silence has its own unique challenges. The challenge is to let solitude drive us into the wilderness of stillness — a very fruitful place for a believer to be.

The Discipline of Submission (10/10)

Pastor Ryan continues our series on Spiritual Disciplines with a focus on submission and how when we pursue submission with God and others, we are free to love unconditionally and truly be Jesus to others.

The Discipline of Fellowship (10/3)

One of the best spiritual disciplines we can practice is fellowship. While we often think we’re good at it, most of our interactions are surface-level only and lack depth. This week, Pastor Ryan teaches how fellowship was an essential practice for the early church as found throughout Scripture and why the pursuit of it is still just as important today.

Rise from the Dead Intro

Up

Courage (9/26)

Most of us know God’s desire is for us to have good, Godly friendships. And even more importantly, we believe He wants us for us to be good friends to others! We know God wants this for us, so why is it so hard? Because it will require us to be emotional, tender, and vulnerable in our friendships. And that takes courage!

Commitment (9/19)

Friendship is commitment. This week’s text tells us that this pair valued each other so much that a covenant was made to seal their friendship. Even after Jonathan’s death, David continued to honor and love his friend by raising his son. We will see through this sermon that we will never become the friends that God created and called us to be without commitment.

Connection (9/12)

Pastor Joel kicks off a new series focused on how life is about relationships and one of the most important relationships you can have with someone is a friendship. We are created by God for connection.

Up Intro

Mountaintop

Mountaintop (9/5)

Pastor Ryan teaches about how the mountains of life are always worth it when you know we’re called to be salt and light.

Speak Up

Speak Up to Confess (8/29)

This week we conclude our Speak Up series with a message from Romans 10 as we look at our part of salvation and sanctification with a message focused on how confession is a public identification with Christ as the Messiah. The Greek word means to say the same thing. We agree that Jesus is God Almighty.

Speak Up to Testify (8/22)

If there was something that, if you did it, not only could impact others for Christ but also help you have a full understanding of every good thing you have in Christ, would you do it?

Well, good news, there is something that can do that, and that is what we will focus on this Sunday in part three of our Speak Up series. Pastor Joel will lead us in a look at an amazing little book in the Bible called Philemon with a message called, Speak Up to Testify.

Speak Up to Defend (8/15)

The Bible has always contained a call for the people of God to stand up and speak up for the poor, the afflicted, the oppressed, and the marginalized. If we have experienced freedom, how can we not pursue freedom on behalf of others? In part two of the Bara series, Speak Up, Pastor Joel will help us hear God’s call to speak up to defend others through the story of Esther. Who knows that we weren’t given our voice for holy advocacy?

Speak Up to Worship (8/8)

Pastor Joel kicks off our new series with a focus on how we are created to worship and how it changes us by looking at the story of Paul and Silas.

Rise and Shine

The Gift of Grace (8/1)

Pastor Joel concludes our series and teaches that it’s important to know that we better be able to tell if we are awake to God’s grace! He will lead us to look at the life of Paul and the effect grace had on him starting with his conversion from Saul to Paul in Acts 9.

The Gist of Generosity (7/25)

Pastor Joel continues our series and lets the truth of scripture ring loud to help us rise in our understanding and practice of generosity.

The Conferring of Creativity (7/18)

Pastor Joel continues our series where we look at how we serve a creative God who, though He never changes in His character, has designed a world full of variety and freshness. We are created in His image. It is important that we seek to make our life and ministry fresh and alive and new!

The Power of Prayer (7/11)

Bara's series, Rise and Shine kicks off with a sermon about waking up to the power of prayer from 1 Kings 17:17-24. Pastor Joel gives us three components of powerful prayer from the account of Elijah praying for the widow's dead son. May we all hear the words of Ephesians 5:14 and be moved to rise!

“Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” – Matthew 26:13 In one of the most beautiful pictures found in the gospels, the story of the woman who broke her alabaster box for Jesus shows us what our Lord expects from every one of us in the realm of commitment. Some offer their opinion - murmuring about the waste while others disparage the extravagance. Then Jesus delivers his declaration. And as he does, he provides us with the surprising standard of what he expects of you and me as far as our service and sacrifice, which can be summed up in a single word: broke. Pastor Joel kicks off our new series from Mark 5 on how we have been delivered from the darkness.

Darkness is defined as the partial or total absence of light. It is also frequently used to describe wickedness or evil. This fall, join Bara Church as we illuminate four truths surrounding darkness: We have been delivered from it. There are advantages to it. We have a responsibility in it. Jesus is the King over it. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. - John 1:5

Forgiveness or Failures? (9/6)

Pastor Joel kicks off a series about how we can focus on forgiveness or failures.

focus: the act of concentrating your attention on something What are you focused on? The answer to that question has more significant ramifications than we often realize. 80% of everything you learn enters the eyes, which can focus on 50 different objects every second and process 36,000 pieces of information in a single hour. The only human organ more complex than the eye is the brain, half of which is also dedicated to sight. Your focus is significant. As believers, we have the choice to see every blessing and struggle through the omnipotent lens of Christ or the nearsighted view of man. Join Bara Church this fall as we take an inside look at Focus.

Tough - Part 1 (8/2)

How do you get through tough times? By being tough! By not giving up. This August, Bara Church tackles a new series: TOUGH. We will look to the wisdom found in the tenth chapter of Hebrews as we decide to choose grit over quit. Hardships abound, no doubt, but so do the stories of unstoppable creativity, relentless courage, consistent concern, and tenacious love from Jesus’ people. We are tough.

Throughout history, the big C, global Church has been the toughest organism in existence. We have faced relentless persecution. We’ve made massive mistakes. We have a perpetual propensity to split, divide, and fragment over doctrinal, stylistic, and relational notions. And what’s more, we are tasked with the high calling of living in the world but not being of the world.  This kingdom business isn’t for the faint of heart. No wonder the apostle Paul compares faith to a fight. Then a worldwide pandemic steps in the ring, and it only gets tougher! We all, to some degree, have felt the painful punches of collective anxiety, spiritual confusion, financial hardship, and for some, even death. The bottom line is that times are tough.

New: A Vision of Hope - Part 1 (7/5)

Imagine that we are in a world with no moral absolutes, a place where truth is in the eye of the beholder, a society of eroding standards. That is actually the world in which we live. But the good news is, this is nothing new. The prophet Jeremiah was called to take a public and unpopular stand for God’s truth in a very similar setting. We are in a unique time in our country and community, to say the least. Sometimes it just seems so dark and full of despair when we look out the window. Yet, for the next four weeks, we’ll see how Jeremiah was strong amidst a tough time and provided beautiful and eternal hope. Join us as Pastor Ryan kicks off this new series on HOPE!

Image Problem - The Solution (6/21)

Pastor Joel continues our series, Vision Problem, with a sermon titled, “The Solution” from Acts 2.

The “oneness” of Yahweh is the basis for unity, for unlike other ancient religions where the national god was seen as one of many gods, each of whom ruled over its own nation, the Hebrew Scriptures teach that Yahweh is not only Israel’s God, but is the God of all and the Creator of all. If God is one, and the creation is one, God’s universe should be a perfect unity. But it's not, and we all know it. Join Bara Church this June as we look at the problem behind the problems. We will discover that what humanity really suffers from is an Image Problem. Unfortunately, it's an ancient sin. Thankfully, we have an ancient solution.

Join Bara Church this May as Pastor Joel preaches from Judges 6-8 in a series entitled, A Vision for Victory. Through a study of the life of Gideon, we will learn that victory is possible, not just over the coronavirus, but in all areas of our lives. The truth is, we all need a victory of some kind! Pastor Joel kicks off our new series, “A Vision Of Victory.”

We admire people who live victoriously. We all know people whose lives are marked by abundance and courage. Then the more we get to know them, the more surprised we are by their humanity. We find they feel the same physical, emotional and interpersonal difficulties we all feel. We realize they deal with the same disappointments, discouragement, and demons that are common to all men and women. And yet, they still do extraordinary things. Why do some people live victoriously and others don't? Join Bara Church this May as Pastor Joel preaches from Judges 6-8 in a series entitled, A Vision for Victory. Through a study of the life of Gideon, we will learn that victory is possible, not just over the coronavirus, but in all areas of our lives. The truth is, we all need a victory of some kind!
