Bridge Story #4: The Nagengast Family

What was your initial connection with Bara?

Robin first met Joel during her tenure as Children’s Director at another local church. In 2014, after she stepped down from that position, Joel asked her to come be a “secret shopper” at Bara.

How did you decide to get connected here?

On Robin’s second visit, Bara washed each other’s feet. This was on the heels - pun intended - of a trip to Uganda where she had washed the feet of the Ugandans, so the significance was heavy on her heart. It was an experience she wouldn’t soon forget and from that point on, she knew Bara was their new church home.

Following our long-term involvement at the prior church, however, we waited a while to get actively involved with Bara. We needed some time to find ourselves again and figure out where God would have us.

We started with helping tear-down after the mobile gatherings at Byron Nelson High School. Then our second daughter Ella took an interest in running sound. Eventually Robin began teaching the Elementary class and Avery began singing with the Worship Team. On any given Sunday you’ll find Robin running live stream, Ella running sound, Graceyn on slides or in the Nursery, and Turner with the Preschool class. And Thursday mornings, you can find Keith and the rest of M.O.B. at Meat U Anywhere.

God led us each where He wanted us to serve in His perfect timing and we are so humbled that we get to serve His Church.

Why should someone else get connected with Bara?

There is something about serving others that fosters connection. It’s one thing to be in a group doing life with others, but serving alongside those same people creates such a familial atmosphere. We genuinely enjoy opportunities to gather with the Bara family on Sundays and throughout the week. We have a desire for others to belong, especially those that have trouble finding their place elsewhere. We know it makes God’s heart happy to see His children in community with one another and extending that community to others, and it makes our hearts happy too!
