Bridge Story #18: Gus & Karen Smith
What was your initial connection with Bara?
Gus' brother was attending and going to the mental health support group. He knew we were looking in the area and invited us to attend.
How did you decide to get connected here?
We had attended a small church earlier in our marriage and enjoyed the inclusive feeling... felt like an extension of family, but that church split and we then joined a larger church with a member we knew, but after a few years we began to feel we were longing for a smaller community and Bara seemed like a fit. We enjoyed the teaching and felt like we could contribute as well as grow in our faith.
Why should someone else get connected with Bara?
Having the support of a group of believers means everything and although our connection was slow in the beginning, once invited to join a small group we found friends to walk with us through ups and downs and to serve along side us. Gus and I are very service-oriented and Bara has allowed us to utilize our skills... from Taco making and float building, to being allowed to play with sweet babies in the nursery, we feel our contributions are varied and our blessings too numerous to count.
